Election Day in Albuquerque: Vote at Any Bernalillo County Center, 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. (Albuquerque Duke City News)

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, and polls in Albuquerque and across New Mexico will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bernalillo County voters have a flexibility most voters in the country do not: the county uses voting convenience centers, so county voters may vote at any center in the county, not just at one assigned precinct.

That convenience-center system changes Election Day strategy. A voter can choose the center near work, near school, or near home — whichever line and location fit the day — as long as it is inside Bernalillo County. Voters in Rio Rancho should note that Sandoval County voters follow their own county's locations and rules.

Identification rules depend on how you registered. Most voters do not need to show ID in a statewide election in New Mexico. But a voter who registers and votes on the same day must bring a physical photo ID, plus proof of a current address if the ID shows a different one — so same-day registrants should come prepared.

The absentee deadline is firm. The Secretary of State advised mailing absentee ballots by Oct. 27, which means anyone still holding a ballot on Election Day should return it in person — to a voting location or the county clerk as directed — by 7 p.m. on Nov. 3. A held ballot put in a mailbox on Tuesday will not arrive in time.

New Mexico's ballot is a big one: an open governor's race, a U.S. Senate seat, and every U.S. House seat. Our companion explainer walks through those contests. For Tuesday itself, the essentials are simple — any county center, polls until 7 p.m., ID in hand if you are registering the same day, and held ballots delivered in person.
